Special Tuning UK Plan Four Car Expansion
The Special Tuning UK team that last year ran Tom Boardman in a Seat Leon, could possibly next year be running as many as 4 Leons in the BTCC. John Boardman the team principal has announced that they have acquired a fourth Leon chassis on top of the 3 that they already have in their possession.
All 4 cars will be altered from their current S2000 spec to meet the new NGTC regulations. Power will come from a turbocharged engine developed by the team and based on Seat’s TFSI powerplant.
“This new Leon chassis was previously raced very successfully by Adam Jones and is the latest specification Leon S2000 chassis,” said Tom speaking to BTCC.net.
With the level of interest that the team have attracted for the 2011 season, they felt it necessary to aquire an extra chassis, and with it give themselves the possibility of running 4 cars during the season. The team feel the combination of the Leon and turbocharged engine will give them a very competitive package in 2011.
The team have already confirmed that they have signed one driver for the new season, and are in advanced talks with ‘several others.’
“We are taking the 2011 season very seriously, the team firmly has its sights set on winning the Independents title next year and, with the highly experienced engineering team we have behind us combined with the Leon chassis and NGTC engine, we think this is a very achievable target.”
