Pinkney Top Ten In Mixed Weekend
David Pinkney secured his seventh top ten finish at Donington Park yesterday in his NGTC powered Vauxhall Vectra at Donington Park in what was a day of mixed performances.
Even before the first race the Harpenden racer was on the back foot after being forced into a late engine change but the Pinkney Motorsport team, with the help of the Pirtek Racing mechanics, worked tirelessly and were able to get Dave out onto the track for the first race.
Pinkney took advantage of the race-one safety car periods which allowed him to climb up to as high as 10th, where he would finish, and with it score his first points since Snetterton.
The 58-year-old would go on to finish the next two races in 18th and 13th which is the first time he has finished all three races at a race meeting since the first round of the season at Thruxton.
“It’s frustrating when things that you can’t control affect the results on track,” he said. “The pace was there in the car and we showed it can be quick, especially in the final race when I managed to set a 12.8 lap despite being in traffic. However, our race day has been ruined by the fact that the grass around the circuit had been cut and was thrown up into the radiator causing the engine to overheat, which shouldn’t be a problem we have to deal with.”
The Pinkney Motorsport team manager, Andrew Dean, remained upbeat despite another disappointing weekend.
“We had a car that had the potential to score in all three races so it’s disappointing that we haven’t got the result for the boys. Lady luck hasn’t been on our side but we’ll regroup for Brands Hatch and hope to end the season well.”
The drivers now have a three week break before the season finale in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch, Kent.
