Newsham Targets BTCC

Dave Newsham, the 43-year-old who was recently crowned Renault Clio Cup champion at Knockhill, has spoken out that he is targeting a drive in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

With his 12th victory of the season the Welsh driver took the title in convincing circumstances as he leads the championship by 122 points in his Team Pyro Renault Clio.

Speaking to Motorsport News, Dave said, “It has always been a dream of mine to join the BTCC and I want to do it in a car that will give me a chance to run at the front. It’s a big step up in terms of finance but I have some great backers and this puts me in a great position to realise my dream and I want to get there as soon as possible.”

Many drivers have used the Renault Clio cup as a stepping stone to the UK’s premier tin-top racing series including Tom Onslow-Cole, Alex MacDowall, Phil Glew and more recently Jeff Smith who made his debut last weekend.
