MacDowall Snatches Pole

Alex MacDowall took his second pole position of the season at Knockhill today, with a late lap of 53.001 seconds to deny home favourite Gordon Shedden.

It was a close session, with many drivers topping the timesheets at different points. However with fifteen minutes left, everything seemed to have settled down and it looked like Shedden would back up his domination of the earlier free practice sessions with the fastest time in qualifying. An Andy Neate crash brought out the red flag which meant a short stoppage. When the session resumed there was time for a last push for pole, and whilst others came close it was MacDowall who got it right with less than five minutes left on the clock, to relegate the home hero to second.

Matt Neal will start third in the second Honda alongside championship leader Jason Plato in the second of the Chevrolets. Steven Kane will start fifth ahead of the Honda Integra of Paul O’Neill, who looked likely to start on the front row until times tumbled late on.

Two weeks ago at Silverstone the Team Aon Ford Focuses locked out the front row, today they locked out the fourth row, with Chilton getting the better of Onslow-Cole.

The first of tomorrow’s races begins at 11:45.
