Donington Park Back Up And Running

After all the problems and pandemonium surrounding the Donington Park cicuit since Donington Ventures Leisure Ltd. went into administration, the circuit is finally back up and running after been given the green light to host national and international motorsport events after successfully regaining it’s racing license.

The FIA and Motorsport Association passed the circuit for its safety inspection to allow it to run races for cars after it had been granted the ACU licence for motorbikes earlier in the month.

Redevelopment for the circuit started back in May 2010 with £2 million going into restoring the circuit into its original condition with a few minor changes being made to the Esses aswel as lengthening the home straight at Goddards Corner.

Kevin Wheatcroft, the Chairman of Donington Park Racing, said: “Reinstating the MSA and FIA track licence now allows us to develop and implement plans for the future of the circuit and for the Donington Park estate.

“There is still a great deal of work ahead of us but we already have a full line up of races over the next few months. We have an exciting future.”

The Director of the project, Duncan Green, worked alongside the contractors at Adroit Group to get the circuit into full working order and is pleased with the result.
He said: “We have worked closely with the MSA and FIA to ensure that we do everything we need to ensure that the track is up to standard and I am delighted that they have granted us our racing licence.

“It is excellent news for everybody connected with the circuit and is testament to a great deal of hard work that has delivered a compliant track within such a tight timescale.”

The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship travels to the Leicetershire circuit in little over three weeks time for round 9 of the championship on 18th and 19th September.
