Electrical Failure Scuppers Pinkney’s Silverstone Weekend

David Pinkney endured his 10th “Did Not Finish” result of the season in what was a difficult weekend at SIlverstone in round seven of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

David was up to as high ninth in race one in his NGTC turbo Vauxhall Vecta, overtaking Boardman and Nash and then capitalising on a Neal and Jackson collision but moments later an electrical problem with the throttle sensor meant that the car would go into ‘safe mode’ leaving him to return slowly to the pits to retire.

No damage was made to the car so he was ready to go out in race two, albeit starting the race from the back of the grid, but the fault would return after the opening lap resulting in yet another retirement for the 58 year-old.

The Pinkney Motorsport mechanics worked their magic on the car and David was able to complete the final race of the day but sadly wasn’t able to find enough pace to get into the top 10 and finished in 11th place.

“It’s been such a frustrating day,” David said. “In the first race, the car felt mega and I honestly feel we could have got up to at least seventh place and been on for our best weekend of the season. Then, we had the problem with the car and that was that. We came out of it with eleventh in race three, but it should have been more.”

Andrew Dea, Pinkney Motorsport team manager, is equally disappointed with the race weekend after they had lots of promise for a good result.

“It’s not been ideal, but we live to fight on another day,” he said. “It is extremely frustrating to have our efforts thwarted by mechanical issues when the car was so great in race one. It wasn’t as good in race three as conditions had changed but it was nice to come through to eleventh place from the back of the field.”
