Team Aon Enjoy Clean Sweep Of Victories

Team Aon took all three victories in today’s meeting at Silverstone and were understandably delighted.

Tom Chilton won the first two races, taking advantage of team mate Tom Onslow-Cole’s gearbox problem in the opener and then somewhat controversially, being allowed past by Onslow-Cole after instructions from the team. Unfortunately for Onslow-Cole, his obedience unintentionally gave a place to Rob Collard as well, leaving him third. This meant there wouldn’t be a repeat of the one-two that the team secured in the first race.

In the final race, both men took advantage of a chaotic opening lap to move up to second and third from fifth and sixth on the grid. Onslow-Cole used the straight line speed of the Focus to maximum effect in order to overtake the race leader, Paul O‘Neill. He never looked like being beaten after this and took a comfortable victory. Chilton, on the other hand, struggled for grip slightly and made contact with Mat Jackson’s BMW but still took a creditable fourth position.

Team Principal Mike Earle summed up the mood in the camp when he said: “A great weekend for the team; three wins, plus a second and a third, therefore five podium finishes – not bad! We’ve moved into the lead of the Constructors championship and both drivers have moved up in the championship standings. Having both of them up there is very important for us heading into the final three rounds of the championship, so all in all a great weekend.”

The team take their leads in the Constructors championship and independent teams’ championship as well as Onslow-Cole’s Independents lead into the next round at Knockhill which takes place on the 4th/5th of September.
