Onslow-Cole Takes Deserved Race Three Win

Tom Onslow-Cole came from 3rd on the grid to take the race three win in todays final race of the day and make it a clean sweep for Team Aon winning in each of the three races today.

It all started with carnage on the grid as Alex MacDowall failed to get off the line causing Depper to run into the back of him and ending his race. This brought out the safety car as the stranded BMW was removed from the track but that was just the start to what was one of the most action packed races of the season.

Race three always brings incidents and excitement and this was no different with Matt Neal giving Plato a nudge into Copse on the first lap causing Plato to spin and drop down into 17th place behind the safety car.

O’Neill started the race from pole position after the reverse grid but it didn’t take Onslow-Cole long to overtake the fans favourite and take the lead after the restart. Onslow-Cole was left to drive away and pull out a good lead ahead of O’Neill who did well to keep Chilton behind and finish the race in 2nd and take his third podium position of the season.

Chilton looked set to take his third podium podium of the day but contact with Matt Jackson late on in the race caused him to drop three places allowing Jackson, Neal and Shedden to pass and came home in 6th.

Kane and Nash had to settle for 7th and 8th whilst Plato couldn’t find a way past and finished down in 9th. MacDowall finished in the final points position after being punted in the rear off the line.

This now means that Jason Plato now only has a 14 point lead over second place in the championship who is now Tom Onslow-Cole who managed to score three podium finishes, including a race win during today’s racing. Matt Neal slips down to 3rd with 148 points with Chilton moving up into 5th on 127 points. Sandwiched in-between them is the other Honda Civic of Gordon Shedden on 138.

It’s all change in the manufacturers trophy as Team Aon now lead ahead of Honda Racing by 22 points and have closed the gap to them in the teams championship. Onslow-Cole now also leads the Independant class ahead of Steven Kane who could only manage a best of 7th during the three races.

The teams will now head off to Knockhill in two weeks time for round 8 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
