Jackson Podium Perfect Remedy For Tough Weekend

Mat Jackson took third place in the final race of the day to salvage something positive out of what otherwise was a pretty tough weekend for Airwaves BMW.

Jackson produced a gutsy drive from 10th on the grid to secure the final position on the podium. He pulled off two excellent moves on Tom Chilton and Matt Neal, in the closing stages of the race to secure his fifth podium finish of the season.

Jackson said, “That was mega. We needed a result today and we deserved one so I’m pleased for myself and the team. All day it seemed like lady luck was not on our side but with this win its back on and I’m chuffed to be leaving in a better mood. Knockhill is next and these ten points are better than nothing, they all add up at the end of the season.”

Team mate Steven Kane also picked up his best result of the day in the last race, finishing seventh. This haul of points sees the team lying second in the Independent teams championship, sixteen points adrift of Team Aon.

However, this had looked an unlikely outcome at the start of the day with Kane and Jackson lining up in mid-grid slots for the opener. Kane managed to finish ninth, collecting two championship points but Jackson finished where he started, 13th, thanks to an error at Becketts. Whilst going wheel to wheel with Matt Neal, Jackson put a wheel on the grass which caused a loss of momentum and a stream of cars to take advantage and move ahead.

Things didn’t turn out much better in race two. Kane managed eighth after a long battle with MacDowall and Shedden and finishing between the two drivers. Jackson scraped into the points with a tenth place finish, having seen his chances of claiming big points disappear at the first corner thanks to being punted into a spin by Andy Neate.

The disappointment of the first two races was soon forgotten though, with Jackson’s impressive drive to third in the final race, giving the team something to cheer about.

Team manager Oliver Collins said, “ Positive end to an otherwise frustrating day. Both drivers gave their all in each of the three races but due to various things they didn’t quite get the results they deserved. We’re glad to be on the podium and ready to kick up a gear in Scotland.”
