Lloyd aiming for quick return to the track
Daniel Lloyd is determined to race in the British Touring Car Championship again despite failing to secure the funds to race at Snetterton this weekend. Lloyd starred in his debut for Triple Eight last time out at Croft by achieving two point scoring finishes from the three races he competed in.
Since this the Huddersfield ace has been working hard to secure the backing that would enable him to participate in the meeting at Silverstone on the 21st/22nd of August. However, it seems more likely that Donington Park will be the venue at which Lloyd makes his competitive return. He commented: “Obviously I’d have loved to be able to continue the fantastic start I made to my BTCC career by racing at Snetterton this weekend but we just weren’t able to get the funding together. We’re working incredibly hard though to get back out as soon as we can. The BTCC is where we want to be and as I think we showed at Croft, it’s where we should be.”
Though Lloyd’s racing future is uncertain for the moment, he will be kept busy training for the 10 kilometre fitness challenge he will undertake later on this year. He will participate to raise money for Kirkwood Hospice in The Men’s Health ‘Survival of the Fittest,’ a high-profile event which will be staged at three venues across the UK – one in England, one in Wales and another in Scotland. Daniel will compete on Saturday 9th October in the Nottingham race. The event which was first staged in 2008 is a true test of stamina, determination and focus. It is incredibly popular with 5000 people expected to enter the Nottingham round alone.
The 10-kilometre running course, which winds through urban and rural areas, has a major obstacle positioned at each kilometre marker to provide the toughest possible test. There’s no doubt it will be one of the most demanding physical challenges Daniel has ever tackled but he’s intent on doing as well as possible for Kirklees-based Kirkwood Hospice.
“Part of me thinks I must be completely mad to do this!” said the 18-year-old, “But in all seriousness, it’s a phenomenal challenge for me to get my teeth into and the most important thing is to try and raise as much as possible for Kirkwood Hospice. They do unbelievable work there and it’s an honour and a privilege to race on their behalf.”
