Shaun Hollamby and his AmD Milltek racing.com outfit endured a successful test session at Snetterton yesterday, the first chance he and the team have had at testing the VW Golf this season.
“Snetterton was always going to be our least competitive circuit due to its high speed nature which favours cars with the most horsepower. Our VW Golf has had a engine rebuild since Croft but will still be 40-50bhp down on the front running cars,” said Shaun Hollamby.
Shaun Hollamby also had help from the KW suspension engineer, Lutz Passon, who flew over from Germany to help the team getting the most from it’s new dampers.
“We ended the morning session just over two seconds off the front running pace of the works Chevrolet and, more importantly, ahead of a couple the Forster BMWs and Boulevards Vauxhall which bodes well for the rest of the season.”
Shaun also held 3rd place in the second session for a long period of time but a drying track meant that he would slip down the order and finish in 8th place but couldn’t better his time of 1:14.257 set in the morning.
“The testing restrictions in the BTCC mean that this was our first test session of the year and we made a myriad of set-up changes which the Golf responded well to. We improved our speed trap figures and our other improvements will become more apparent on circuits where horsepower isn’t such an important factor,” said Shaun Hollamby.
