Chilton Cooking on Gas

Tom Chilton lit up the timing sheet in the latter parts of the afternoon session which saw conditions change from torrential downpour to a dry track during the course of the three hour session.

Chilton, in his LPG powered Ford Focus, managed to record a time of 1:11.408 which was over a second faster than Nash in second and 0.5s faster than the fastest time in the morning.

The session started slowly for teams with no-one out on track during the first 45 minutes due to the heavy rainfall but once the weather resided a flurry of cars made it out onto the track.

Out of the 16 cars that started the day, only 11 submitted a time in the afternoon. Johnson, O’Neill, George, Jordan and Neate all stayed in the garage during the afternoon session.

Plato, who some regard as the veteran of the BTCC, ended the day with the third fastest time with a 1:12.662 but his teammates session was short lived as MacDowall, in the sister Chevrolet Cruze, had to be retrieved from Sear Corner. There was no damage to the external of the car but it was an engine problem which caused the young 20-year old to be towed back to the pits.

Rob Collard was the fastest of the RWD BMW’s with a time of 1:12.715 beating Kane and Jackson by over 0.3 seconds.

Shaun Hollamby managed to record the 8th fastest time but was unable to improve on his mornings time .

The teams return to Snetterton is just over two weeks for Rounds 16, 17 and 18 of the MSA Dunlop British Touring Car Championship.
