Airwaves BMW and the Motorbase team must be delighted at just how synchronised their two drivers are when it comes to tomorrows Snetterton test. Turning up the heat on their Dunlop tyres is the teams first priority!
Both Steven Kane and Mat Jackson are clearly focused on what they need to do in order to make a challenge for the BTCC title. So clear in fact the pair of them couldn’t be split when asked what they hoped to achieve at the test and gave BTCC Crazy a joint statement.
“Tomorrow is all about resolving the issues with the new Dunlop tyres in qualifying. Until now we’ve not got the best out of them and we’re struggling to get them up to temperature and keep them there for one-off hot laps. Over a race distance we are right on the mark, and as you’ve seen toward the end of the races the Airwaves BMW comes into its own so this is an area we need to get right if we’re to win the championship.”
It’s been no secret that the rear wheel drive BMWs have improved as races goes on, often taking valuable points from front wheel drive cars suffering as their tyres give out. Getting it right with the Dunlop tyres early on would be a massive boost for the team in its pursuit of the BTCC crown.
“At Snetterton the team will be looking at various solutions and trying different set-ups to resolve the issue, and we’re confident we have the right guys on board to do it. If we can shave a few tenths off our qualifying times and start toward the front of the grid we’ll win a lot more races and be in contention for the title”
It appears that confidence is high. Airwaves BMW and Motorbase are not just looking to gain a bit more speed – these boys are looking to gain a championship!
