Airwaves BMW have tough weekend
Croft saw the teams reach the halfway point of the season in scorching conditions but Airwaves BMW had it all to do after finishing Saturday’s Qualifying session with Jackson and Kane in 12th and 15th respectively.
The first two races were races to forget by both drivers as Jackson was the only driver to score for the team as he scored two points for his 9th place finish in race one.
Race three, however, was a very different story and saw Steven Kane drive a brilliant race, moving up 16 places from 19th to finish third and keep his record of finishing in the top three at each circuit on the calendar so far.
Kane said, “Mega, what can I say? The whole team really came through and kicked up a gear and I have to give them a lot of credit, I had a fantastic race car for race 2 and 3 today and there was a real chance of a fourth place finish if only the radiator had held on. It’s a great feeling to get another podium and once we solved a few qualifying niggles there’s a lot more to come from me and the car.”
Jackson had to settle for a 7th place finish in the final race on a weekend which marked his 100th BTCC race of his career.
“It was a great last race and if I hadn’t made a silly mistake and gone in a little hot I would have been on the podium too,” said Jackson. “This is my 100th BTCC start and apart from making me feel old I enjoyed it just like the first! My mistake cost me today and I was unlucky to have to retire in race 2, but the last race today helped. If we can place higher in qualifying then it makes the whole job a lot easier, especially when you’re driving a great race car like this”
Despite a difficult weekend, Airwaves BMW remain on the top of the Independents Team Championship but slip to second in the overall Teams Championship behind Honda Racing Team. Steven Kane is now two points behind Tom Onslow-Cole in the Independents Driver Championship in 2nd with Jackson down in 4th.
