Boardman: “Really disappointed”

Tom Boardman left his home circuit last weekend reflecting on what could have been in the latest round of the MSA Dunlop British Touring Car Championship. The highlight of Boardmans day has to be his 8th place finish but after leading the final race for 13 laps before forced to retire, Tom is understandably disappointed.

The 27 year-old, Forton based driver started the first race from 12th on the grid after a solid qualifying performance in the Seat Leon but his race was cut short as a broken driveshaft forced him to retire. Tom went on to say, “The car felt great in qualifying, and I really thought I could have been in the mix, so when the driveshaft went I was really disappointed at not being able to add more points to the board.”

“Having led the race for almost 13 laps I thought I was in with great shout of a podium, so I couldn’t believe it when the steering arm broke with just three laps to go. I’m gutted, but I know we’ve taken another good step forward here. The Special Tuning UK team have worked really hard doing a great job on set-up and we know we’ve got the pace to maintain a challenge in the Independent Drivers title.

“The home support here was fantastic and together with family and friends cheering me on I was really spurred on to do well, and I’m truly grateful for everyone’s encouragement,” Boardman continued.

Tom Boardman will go into the next round of the season at Croft in just over a week tied in 12th position on 30 points with Andrew Jordan.
