Pinkey Left Disappointed

Dave Pinkney leaves Rockingham today disappointed with his qualifying position for tomorrow’s race after finishing the session in 13th place.

David was able to set the 8th fastest time in free practice but was unable to emulate that when it came down to it and when it really mattered.

“The engine is the best it has been so far and we did well in the first session,” David reflected. “However, instead of getting quicker as the day has gone on, we’ve gone the other way. I think the circuit has got more slippery and it has made things more difficult for us. I was following James Nash [in the Triple Eight Vauxhall] and when he turned into a corner, the car went where he pointed it. I tried to follow and the front end slid away from me.”

Team manager, Andrew Dean spoke about their disappointment with the session. “We are disappointed with the result as we felt we had the pace to fight for a place inside the top ten,” he said. “We did a 24.6 in first practice which would have been eleventh quickest if we’d matched it in qualifying. With the extra weight at the front of the car, we have struggled with understeer and it means that David can’t get the power down as quickly as he’d like to out of the corners.”

Pinkney will go into tomorrows race with confidence with the car running well and will be hoping to add to his points tally in the three races.

David went on to say, “I’d hoped we would have been quicker, but we’ll see what happens on race day.”
