Bartrum happy to see RWD in NGTC regulations

David Bartrum, team boss of Airwaves BMW, who currently lies at the top of the team standings after the first round, is happy that Alan Gow went back on his initial proposal and included rear-wheel drive cars in the New Generation Touring Car regulations which he announced late last week.

“It’s good news but I expected this.” said Bartrum speaking to BTCC Crazy. “It is the right thing to do and I’m very glad rear-wheel drive cars have been included as well they should.”

The Motorbase Performance outfit, which run under the Airwaves BMW banner for the second consecutive season in the BTCC, have used the rear-wheel drive BMW 320si for the last three seasons but despite their relationship with the German car manufacturer it’s not a foregone conclusion that they will be driving BMW’s when the NGTC rules come into force.

“We still need to think long and hard about what we’re going to run next year; I’m sure much will change over the coming months but this gives us some securituy and a platform to build on,” Bartrum added.
