Glew Signs for 888
Phil Glew is the second former Clio Cup driver to make his move into the British Touring Car Championship after MacDowall was confirmed at SIlverline Chevrolet last week.
“I am over the moon to finally get my chance to move into the BTCC after such a successful season last year and especially with such a prestigious team as Triple Eight Race Engineering,”said Glew to the official website, btcc.net.
The announcement comes after Phil Glew tested with the Triple Eight Engineering team at Rockingham. Triple Eight are entering the BTCC after they Vauxhall announced to pull the plug on their works VXR team at the end of last season.
“I tested for the team two weeks ago and was blown away by how professional they were and I knew straight away that this was the place for me. We had to work really hard since the test to put a deal together with the team and I am delighted that my current sponsors WD-40 and 3-IN-ONE as well as new sponsor, paint company Glasurit, will be supporting us for the 2010 BTCC season.”
Glew will be driving a Vauxhall Vectra for the 2010 season, the third Vectra that will be on the grid at Thruxton. The Vectra will be S2000 spec, rather than following the trend that Pinkney and Jordan have started by using the NGTC-spec TOCA engine.
On Tuesday it was announced that Triple Eight would be entering two cars in the BTCC. It’s unknown who the second driver will be but Dean Smith has been touted to be announced soon after he also tested with Glew at Rockingham.
